Tenpin Bowling Australia media release, 1 November 2012:
Who is that team in black and red chosen by TBA to help illustrate the announcement of the unified National Disabilities Championship in 2013? |
Following detailed discussions and planning, Tenpin Bowling Australia Limited (TBA) and Australian Disabilities Tenpin Inc. (ADT) are pleased to announce the staging of a unified National Disabilities Championship in Canberra in June 2013.
For several years, each organisation has staged its own National Championship and the affiliation is designed to provide the best outcomes and benefits for people with a disability and the sport of tenpin bowling throughout Australia.
In July 2012, TBA established a joint management committee (JMC) to oversee the unification and provide a framework to develop the best experiences and competition opportunities for bowlers with a disability.
“This move is a wonderful step forward for the sport of bowling in Australia,” said TBA’s National Inclusion Coordinator, Matthew Dunstan. “Although there is still a lot of work to do and logistics to manage, the decision by TBA and ADT to come together is a historic one. The JMC is committed to ensuring the work that has been going on for a number of years will continue to develop and grow,” he said.
TBA CEO Cara Honeychurch commented, “Both organisations have run very successful championships for many years for bowlers with a disability and we are excited to be joining forces to make the combined championship even more successful in 2013 and beyond. I would like to thank and acknowledge the ADT Board for agreeing to a unified championship where the winners will undoubtedly be the extensive number of bowlers with a disability throughout the country.”
The Chairman of ADT Michael Cooke added, “The unification of the National Disabilities Championships is something that I and the Board of the Australian Disabilities Tenpin Inc have been working towards for many years. I am pleased we have been able to come to an agreement with TBA to run a unified championship that will benefit all bowlers with a disability and improve the opportunities for participation in a sport that only focuses on their ability and not on what they cannot do’.
