Karina was at the Better Homes and Gardens Expo last weekend, and ran into chef Fast Ed - she introduced herself as the Women's Captain of the Hornsby Rockets and thanked him for supporting our Trivia Night this year (with the autographed cook book).  She then did some good PR work, asking him if he would give us his support again next year - and he said he would love to!

Nationals 2010 - Perth: congratulations and thanks

Hornsby Rockets  travelled to Perth 29th May - 5th June, with a party of 20 members to take part in the 2010 TBA Australian Disabilities National Championships at AMF Joondalup.

They were competing against some of the nation's best bowlers and the Hornsby Rockets did us all proud with their bowling, friendship and behaviour towards other bowlers and family on every day that they played.

At the the dinner on the final night the Rockets were over the moon when the medal winners were read out - the team achieved a total of 22 medals, a really great achievement for a first time attendance at the TBA Australian Disabilities National Championships.

Tour of the WACA - a great way to spend a "day off" from bowling.

President Ron Crompton would like to pass on his thanks to all the carers who helped to support the team in Perth, to the community groups and members of the public that supported the Hornsby Rockets at funding raising events so that the team could travel to Perth. Without your support members of the Hornsby Rockets would not have the opportunity to compete at this level of bowling.

Those of us unable to accompany our sons and daughters would also like to thank Ron Crompton and the other parents and carer - Esther Bardy, Anna Peters, Annette and Ian Seymour, Jo Elsick, Robyn and Denis Wilson - for the support they gave to the whole team during their trip.

Thanks to sponsors

Hornsby Rockets is able to offer sporting, social, recreational and personal development opportunities to its members with disabilities only with the support of sponsors.  We thank all of those who have appreciated our achievements and potential in many generous ways.

Donations helping to subsidise the cost of new winter jackets for Hornsby Rockets:

Trivia and Games Night 2010 - a great success!

A big thank you to Anna Peters and her band of helpers for organising  a wonderful Trivia and Games Night last Saturday,  and congratulations on the successful fund raising result. It was a lot of work, and you did a tremendous job.

The crowd arrived and found their seats, the room was ready .....

..... Brooke welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming.
She introduced the MC, Mrs Wilson (who, like Anna, was too shy for a photo), and the games began.

The Rockets had collected the tickets for the lucky door prize draw, and were ready to help wherever they were needed.

Before the quiz started, our wonderful supporters bought their prize pins, and lined up to collect their wins - most bought more than one, and we could hardly keep up with them.

Esther started the trivia rounds, and everyone got thinking  ..... either of the answers, or ways to bribe them out of Denis and Ron.

In between trivia rounds, to rest our brains and open our wallets, we had games like Mr Squiggle (you remember him - he lived on the moon and travelled in a rocket .......

Everyone of these balloons contained  the name of a prize.  Our guests paid $1 to popthe balloons so they could collect their prizes.  It took no time to pop them all.

Mrs Wilson auctioned off larger donated items .....

And we sold table mascot challenge kits - the guests made a rocket from the various crafty items in the kit, and the winner was awarded a prize.

The entries were creative and fun ...

.... a bit bizarre ....  one included a rocket blast-off sound effect!

..... and personalised!  Karina's family put her in the rocket ....

Competition was fierce ....  here's the winner:

Musician Gary Wallace donated his talents - thanks Gary!

Long time supporters, Bendigo Bank ....

...... and the Rotary Club of Berowra were among the community groups who took tables.

Hunter's Playgroup had the best food!

And the quiz winner were .....

Table 9. Commonwealth Connection with 90 Points

2nd  were Table 2 - Mix 'n' Match with 85.75 points

3rd were Table No. 11 - Berowra Rotary with 78.50 points

Our thanks to all of our guests, supporters, donors and everyone who helped in the lead up, and on the night.  Thanks to Lucy and Anna who baked a delicious supper, Annette who looked after the money, Esther the Quizmaster, Robyn, MC, scorers John, Trish and Jill, Bribe Masters Denis and Ron, everyone who helped set up the hall and clean up afterwards.
