Blind and Vision Impaired Tenpin Bowling: National Tournament Perth

The B.V.I.T. 2013 National Tournament was held in Perth WA from 15th - 18th April at AMF Cannington, south of Perth. Twenty two bowlers from Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales attended.

NSW was represented by Glen Barwick (B2) Donna Holland (B2) and Tim Wilson (B3), who also bowls with Hornsby Rockets.

Format of the competition was:
Day 1 15/04 Singles 6 games
Day 2 16/04 Quads 4 games
Day 3 17/04 Doubles 6 games
Day 4 18/04 Trios 4 Games

The presentation dinner was held Thursday evening at the Good Earth Hotel in East Perth, with presentations proceeding through dinner. The NSW team retained the B.V.I.T. State Shield for the second year in a row.
Rockets representative Tim Wilson did very well with his highest score being 172 and coming away with 3 medals:
  • Gold in B3 Male Handicap Singles
  • Gold in B3 Handicap Trios
  • Silver B3 Male Handicap All Events
Congratulations Tim, and to Donna and Glen.

The Perth Tournament ran very smoothly with friendly competition and the bowlers having an enjoyable time. Thanks to all concerned.

Footnote: Perth B.V.I.T.'s newest bowler is 87 year old Betty, who won a cluster of medals and enjoyed herself. The journey has just begun.

Warren's 'World Greatest Shave' raises more than $1200 !

We said in this post that Hornsby Rockets member Warren Seymour was up for shaving his hair off for the 2013 World's Greatest Shave in support of the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia. He set himself a fundraising goal of $240, and arranged for the deed to be done at AMF Hornsby on a Saturday morning, just before bowling ...

Before ...
During ... Warren's Rockets mates lent their support while his Mum, Annette wielded the shears ...
After ... well, I guess I like it?
And lo and behold, when the online pledges and cash donations were totted up, Warren had raised $1240!

Congratulations Warren - well done, indeed!

Hornsby Rockets Invitational, 6th - 7th April 2013

Hornsby Rockets held our annual invitational club challenge last weekend at Hornsby AMF, with 7 clubs competing.  The event ran very smoothly and to excellent time, because of the precision of the planning and the hard work of the organisers during the event.

Such an event takes a great deal of time and effort in the organising, planning and execution.  Our grateful thanks to Tournament Director, Ron Crompton and his team, especially Lesley Constable and Natham Constable who set up squads, took responsibility for scoring and compilation of the awards, and reporting of results, Annette Seymour who acts as our tournament secretary (looking after entries, registrations, payments, accreditation of players, grading and squads), volunteers who supervised and supported the bowlers during the tournaqment, AMF Hornsby staff, and of course, the bowlers.

Congratulations to Illawarra Star Strikers who took out the Club Championship and will hold the shield for the next year.
Hornsby Rockets Vice-President, Lesley Constable presented the Championship Shield to Susanne Charlesworth, President of Illawarra Star Strikers
Hornsby Rockets bowlers with their medals and trophies after the presentation on Sunday afternoon.
Emma Matthews, Stephen Smith and Jeremy Orr were absent.

The results below are for Hornsby Rockets members only.  You will see that some bowlers have taken out two places in one 'event' - because they bowled in the same event on both days, effectively competing against themselves!

Illawarra Star Strikers Club Challenge, 9th March 2013: full medals list

Hornsby Rockets members who competed at Illawarra on 9th March 2013
(Declan O'Connor absent)
In addition to the fabulous scores at this competition that we told you about in this post, Karina Peters surprised even herself with her very rare 'Triplex' score ... 126, 126 and 126 scored in all three games of one series.  Karina said she was surprised to see it come up the second time, but she she thought she was seeing things when it came up the third time!

Thanks to Natham Constable who complied the results for the blog.
