Theme Day and BBQ

Last Saturday (28 June) was Theme day and the theme of the day was Country & Western. A whole mess of cowpokes shoes up. Prizes to Ben and Karina for costumes of the day.

And the weekend didn't end there. On Sunday Bunnings allowed us to run a BBQ outside their store in Dural.

It was cold.

It was (really) windy.

A car tried to run over Ron (he's fine).

And we had a great turnout of bowlers, parents and (most importantly) customers.

All up we enriched the Bowling Club coffers by an astounding $1,250.55. Huge thanks to the volunteers, and to those who donated to allow us to buy supplies. The response was overwhelming.

2014 Hornsby Rocket Challenge Night a HUGE success

We held our annual Challenge Night this past Friday, and what a success it was.

We had teams from Bendigo Bank Galston, Mixed Probus, Matt Keans office, family and friends and of course a few bowlers from the Rockets (next year we would like to see more Rockets attend).

Matt Kean opened the night and our latest Patron, The Hon. Phillip Ruddock, closed the evening.

We had 72 bowlers who all seemed to have had a wonderful time.

Prizes were given out during the evening and the Hornsby Rockets raised $690.80 ($110 which was from the lolly guessing competition) which is a fantastic effort.

Many thanks to all who attended and maybe next year, we will have a bigger turnout.

First Place went to: "Marbled Jaw" (the Mixed Probus team)

Second Place went to: "Whatever" (comprised of Rose MacPherson, Kevin MacPherson, Mark
Lagden, Amy McFadden, Robert Klabbers and Debbie Nancarrow).

All other teams did exceptionally well and everyone went home a winner.

Here are some additional pictures from the night. Thanks to EVERYBODY who showed up and supported the Rockets.

New Patron for Hornsby Rockets

NSW MP for Hornsby, Matt Kean, has been our patron for a number of years and has always been a strong Hornsby Rockets supporter.

I'm very pleased to announce that, in addition to Mr. Kean's strong support, we can add the support and Patronage of the Hon. Philip Ruddock, MP for Berowra.  When he agreed to be Patron for Hornsby Rockets, Mr. Ruddock wrote: "It is with pleasure that I accept and shall look forward to making acquaintance with you and your team members.  The Hornsby Rockets are a very special group and I am delighted to be associated with you."

Welcome aboard, Mr. Ruddock.

A Busy Time Ahead

The Hornsby Rockets Ten Pin Bowling Club has a very full calendar for the next few months.

Pencil them in and come and support us:

On April 5th and 6th Hornsby AMF host our Invitational. Singles, Double and Teams compete for bragging rights.

Our Challenge night will be held on the the 16th of May. If you haven't received an invite yet, you will be soon.

On the 29th of June, bowlers, parents, carers and committee members will man the grill at Bunnings in Dural. Come by, buy a sausage sandwich and drink and support the club.

And once again we will celebrate "Christmas in July" on July 26th by hosting a trivia night at Hornsby RSL. Trivia games, raffles and loud music should warm everybody up. This is our one major fundraiser for the year. It helps with the cost of bowlers' uniforms, the Christmas party, trophies and medals, transport to local competitions and to the Nationals.

If you want any more information about any of these events (like wanting to donate sausages for the BBQ, or prizes for trivia night, or just to cadge an invite for the Challenge Night), leave a comment below and someone will get back to you ASAP
