In bowling, 'scratch' means without the handicap added in. A scratch game is the actual score of the game, whereas a handicap game is the scratch game and the handicap added together. So 'high game scratch' would be the highest game a person in the league or tournament bowled without adding in the handicap. For example, someone with a 12 handicap bowls a 249. The 'scratch' score is 249, the handicap score is 261.

Congratulations Adam Mandarano: 278 !!
Adam Mandarano is a great bowler. He has been a member of the Hornsby Rockets for many years. He consistently bowls well and wins medals in competitions in A grade, in singles, doubles and teams. He scores a lot of strikes, including doubles, turkeys and four baggers, and has scored over 200 a number of times. Adam likes to bowl, and to compete.
Yesterday, Adam surpassed all of his previous excellent scores, bowling a 278 game during the Illawarra Star Strikers Challenge at Albion Park. He scored 10 strikes in the game, and his score was 127 over his average. Congratulations, Adam - you are a champion!
