World's Greatest Shave: Warren is up for it

Hornsby Rockets member Warren Seymour is entering the 2013 World's Greatest Shave to  raise funds for the Leukaema Foundation of Australia, and invites his friends to join him or support him.

Warren plans to have his head shaved at AMF Hornsby on
Saturday 16th March,
just before Hornsby Rockets bowling starts.

Here is Warren's message about the World's Greatest Shave 2013
I'm being brave and taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World's Greatest Shave.
It's on the weekend of 14-17 March 2013.
I'm taking part - so why don't you?
You can be sponsored to shave or colour your hair, and all the money raised funds blood cancer research and free support for people with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. So it's a really good cause.
Click here to sign up or if you'd rather sponsor me instead click on my donor page to make an online donation.
I hope you'll want to join in or sponsor me.
Thanks!
Warren
Warren has chosen to take part in honour of Hornsby Rockets members who have had cancer, and of children with leukaemia.

Summer holidays

What did you do over the summer? While the Rockets took our usual summer break, Jeremy Orr and his family enjoyed an exotic adventure to Vietnam and Cambodia.

Lorraine, Jeremy, David and Isabel enjoyed the historical sites, and also took a class in Cambodian cooking!

Welcome back, Rockets, for 2013

Good to see the Rockets back in action on Saturday mornings at Hornsby AMF from 19th January - hope you all had a good break, and are ready for an active and fun year.

Congratulations to Adam Mandarano on scoring a four bagger , and a 202 game on Saturday 9th February - a great start to your year!

Competitions are about to get underway.  The first event will be at Illawarra Strikers on Saturday 9th March, at Albion Park.   Expressions of interest have been sent out - don't forget to have them back, with your payment, by this coming Saturday, 16th February so we can book in.

Next up will be our own Hornsby Rockets Invitational, on the weekend of 6th and 7th April. Expression of interest have been sent out for this event too, and must be returned by Saturday 9th March.  We are expecting a big response from other clubs and will have to work hard to fit everyone in - so if you are intending to bowl on only one day, please consider booking for Saturday when there is likely to be more space.

2012 Presentation Night and Christmas Party

Thank you to Lucy Mandarano for organising our annual Christmas Party at Asquith Bowling Club on Saturday evening.

Our Patron, State MP for Hornsby Matt Kean attended to present the club trophies to the bowlers ... and he also presented a cheque for $10,000 - a very generous and very welcome donation from the Minister for Disability Services, Andrew Constance, towards the cost of sending a team to the Australian Disability Championship in Canberra in June, 2013.  Our grateful thanks to the Minister, and to Matt for supporting our application.

Patron Matt Kean MP with the bowlers, and the presentation cheque

2012 Captains, Georgette and Natham handed over to 2013 Captains-elect Tayla and Adam

Gary Wallace provided the music ...

... with a little assistance from Warren

Thanks to everyone for a very good year - have a great Christmas and New Year, enjoy the holidays, and we'll be back in action from Saturday 19th January, 2013.

Ten Hornsby Rockets members qualified to compete in the NSW TBA Disbaility Masters Championship  held on Sunday 25th November at Strikers Albion Park, and did very well. This competition was held the day after each of the bowlers had competed in the Lachlan Invitational.

In the Restricted Women's division, Candice Lundie took second place (coming within 5 pins of the winner in a series that cam down to the last frame), and Karina Peters took third place.

Congratulations on your fine efforts!

Lachlan Tigers Invitational

Our bowlers did well at the Lachlan Tigers Invitational on Saturday 24th November, although we don;t have the final medal tally yet.

Jeremy Orr, bowling his first ever tournament scored three strikes in the very first game.

Adam Mandarano scored a turkey in his first game (in the teams event), and another in the doubles event (which included five strikes altogether, and a 193 score).

Karina Peters scored a four bagger (four strikes in a row) in a doubles game in which she scored 178.

Nick Marsionis bowled a turkey to finish his doubles series.

Amy McFadden scored a four bagger in doubles.

Stephen Smith scored a four bagger  in his singles series, and bowled six strikes altogether in that game.

Well done all, and thanks to the carers who supported both the competition bowlers at North Strathfield, and those who ensured that regular Saturday bowling went along smoothly at Hornsby.
